Principal Applied Scientist

关于

I am a Principal Applied Scientist with the IC3-AI team at Microsoft, where my research focuses on developing intelligent, efficient, and reliable AI systems, spanning reinforcement learning, real-time communications, and multimodal AI. My work includes reinforcement learning-based approaches for bandwidth estimation and control in real-time communications, adaptive evaluation of large language models, and, more recently, efficient video understanding through learned video compression and compact visual representations for video-language models.
Prior to joining Microsoft, I was a postdoctoral researcher in the Mathematics and Computer Science Division (opens in new tab) at Argonne National Laboratory (opens in new tab), advised by Dr. Prasanna Balaprakash (opens in new tab). I received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology (opens in new tab), Chicago, IL, USA, in 2016 and 2021, respectively, where I was advised by Dr. Lin Cai (opens in new tab).  My research interests span the broad areas of reinforcement learning (RL), offline RL, safe RL, multi-fidelity RL, statistical machine learning, LLM evaluation, video-language models, and data-driven optimization. I received a Fulbright Predoctoral Scholarship (opens in new tab) from the U.S. Department of State in 2015, and the Starr/Fieldhouse Research Fellowship (opens in new tab) from Illinois Tech in 2019 (opens in new tab).
