In conjunction with <a href=\"http:\/\/hortonworks.com\/blog\/advancing-enterprise-hadoop-hortonworks-data-platform-2-1\/\">Hortonworks recent release of HDP 2.1<\/a> as a Hadoop on Windows offering and <a href=\"http:\/\/cm-edgetun.pages.dev\/en-us\/server-cloud\/products\/analytics-platform-system\/?WT.mc_id=Blog_SQL_General_DI#fbid=QfjvHDQ6mL_\">Analytics Platform System<\/a> as a Hadoop and data warehousing appliance, this release of Azure continues our strategy of making Hadoop accessible to everybody with <a href=\"http:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/services\/hdinsight\/?WT.mc_id=Blog_SQL_General_DI\">Hadoop in the cloud<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This release of HDInsight is important because it has the latest benefits of Apache Hadoop 2.4 which provides order magnitude (up to 100x) performance improvements to query response times and continues to leverage the <a href=\"http:\/\/hortonworks.com\/labs\/yarn\/\">benefits of YARN<\/a> (upgrading to the future \u201cData Operating System For Hadoop 2.0\u201d). Finally, we are also providing an easy-to-use web interface that gives users of HDInsight a friendly experience. You can create queries with a graphical user interface to issue Hive queries.<\/p>\n<p>The 100x improvements to query response times is due to the <a href=\"http:\/\/hortonworks.com\/labs\/stinger\/\">Stinger<\/a> initiative where Microsoft in collaboration with Hortonworks and the open source software community (OSS) have brought some of the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.technet.com\/b\/dataplatforminsider\/archive\/2014\/03\/13\/microsoft-brings-innovations-from-sql-server-to-hadoop-with-stinger.aspx?WT.mc_id=Blog_SQL_General_DI\">technological breakthroughs of SQL Server to Hadoop<\/a>.
