Research in Focus: Using Machine Learning in Healthcare

Silvia Chiappa, Post-doc Researcher, Microsoft Research Cambridge, is using machine learning to analyze factors such as smoking, COPD, and asthma that can affect lung function. The probabilistic model allows her to combine all these data and shared variables among the populations and draw inferences and calculate the effects of the variables in terms of adding years to the ‘age’ of lungs.
