\nMicrosoft has been the trusted partner enabling digital transformation through low<\/span>–<\/span>code solutions for the U<\/span>.<\/span>S<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0federal government for many years.\u00a0<\/span>U<\/span>ntil now<\/span>, the\u00a0<\/span>Department of Defense (<\/span>DoD<\/span>)<\/span>\u00a0workloads requiring IL4 compliance<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>have been limited to\u00a0<\/span>on-premises solutions requiring the DoD to own the ongoing management and maintenance of the required infrastructure.\u00a0<\/span>In the coming months<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>t<\/span>he DoD<\/span>\u00a0will take transformation a step further and move to a cloud-based technology solution\u00a0<\/span>package.<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

In\u00a0migrating to the cloud, the\u00a0DoD\u00a0will be able to rely more on their Microsoft partnership to provide remote security measures. In turn, Microsoft will\u00a0provide\u00a0even\u00a0more comprehensive customer service\u00a0to federal\u00a0partners.\u00a0One of the more common use cases of Dynamics 365 in defense agencies is workforce management. By consolidating data from different silos across the organization, our defense agencies\u00a0are able to\u00a0make quicker strategic decisions and better determine who is mission ready by gathering insights around readiness and requirements in one united interface.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Today we are happy to announce that Dynamics 365 and the Power Platform (Power Apps\u00a0<\/span><\/span>and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Power Automate) have received an IL4 provisional authorization (PA).\u00a0<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Very soon<\/span><\/span>,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>t<\/span><\/span>he\u00a0<\/span><\/span>DoD<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>will migrate more of its technology infrastructure\u00a0<\/span><\/span>from\u00a0<\/span><\/span>on<\/span><\/span>–<\/span><\/span>premises to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Microsoft Dynamics 365 and PowerApps<\/span><\/span>\u00a0in the cloud<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Privacy guidelines and provisions\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

All technology infrastructure within the\u00a0<\/span>DoD\u00a0<\/span>must meet\u00a0<\/span>specific privacy requirements set by the Defense Information Systems Agency, or DISA.\u00a0<\/span>Currently, Dynamics 365 and PowerApps\u00a0<\/span>have long been approved\u00a0<\/span>to support IL2-level information,\u00a0<\/span>meaning<\/span>\u00a0the solution c<\/span>ould<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>only support\u00a0<\/span>non-mission-critical informatio<\/span>n<\/span>. As the DoD proceeds with<\/span>\u00a0cloud migration, these<\/span>\u00a0customized<\/span>\u00a0Azure-based solutions will<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>have\u00a0<\/span>increas<\/span>e<\/span>d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>security compliance to\u00a0<\/span>more sensitive information\u00a0<\/span>at IL<\/span>4 .<\/span>\u00a0At that point<\/span>, Dynamics 365 and PowerApps will be able to support\u00a0<\/span>national security systems<\/span>\u00a0for the first time<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To date, the federal government has been responsible for solely managing the software on<\/span>–<\/span>premises<\/span>, including\u00a0<\/span>all<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>relative s<\/span>ervers<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A cloud-based solution improves the customer experience<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Cloud migration of<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0DoD’s workforce management workloads will mean that this will be the first time\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0agency is not only heightening security measures on a cloud-based solution with a<\/span>n external<\/span>\u00a0technology partner, but it will also\u00a0<\/span>transfer\u00a0<\/span>all technical maintenance and support<\/span>\u00a0to Microsoft.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>As a trusted partner,\u00a0<\/span>Microsoft\u00a0<\/span>will assume system maintenance and monitoring once the new updates are released. Dynamics\u00a0<\/span>365\u00a0<\/span>and PowerApps will provide the DoD the support it needs as it takes on\u00a0<\/span>additional workloads that go beyond the agency\u2019s current bandwidth. Th<\/span>is\u00a0<\/span>expanded bandwidth also allow<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0for more<\/span>\u00a0agency<\/span>\u00a0customers to go beyond<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0traditional customer service to more customized, comprehensive support.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

PowerApps will allow the agency\u2019s IT team to provide more real-time interactions with customers on<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>go. Technology support will no longer be desktop<\/span>–<\/span>reliant<\/span>, which is the current case\u00a0<\/span>with the on-premises setup.<\/span>\u00a0Once launched, the PowerApps integration will go beyond the\u00a0<\/span>first-<\/span>party application\u00a0<\/span>that\u2019s currently supported by PowerApps and include an<\/span>\u00a0automated platform. The inherent benefits<\/span>\u00a0will<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>transcend<\/span>\u00a0what Dynamics 365 provides currently to a more customized application<\/span>\u00a0solution<\/span>\u00a0for\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>DoD.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Release date by year-end<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

There has yet to be a confirmed release date for the cloud-based solution at the DoD.\u00a0<\/span>Current timeline projections target that the system will meet compliance requirements and launch by the end of\u00a0<\/span>2020<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Once launched, this cloud-native solution package will include\u00a0<\/span>many<\/span>\u00a0capabilities that will empower<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0DoD to be a more responsive and more mobile federal workforce. Dynamics 365 and PowerApps will set the stage for more innovation and transformation<\/span>. Looking ahead,\u00a0<\/span>more of\u00a0<\/span>our<\/span>\u00a0federal agency partners\u00a0<\/span>will be better equipped\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0<\/span>support internal customers faster\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>more effectively<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
