The green bonds market is on a roar\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span>\u00a0banks are raising their sustainable finance objectives,\u00a0<\/span>while investors hunger for green assets over brown.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Y<\/span>et we\u2019re still far from meeting the UN\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>S<\/span>ustainable\u00a0<\/span>D<\/span>evelopment\u00a0<\/span>G<\/span>oals (SDG<\/span>s<\/span>) annual funding target of $2.6 trillion outlined in the Paris Agreement.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Capital markets are\u00a0<\/span>all about\u00a0<\/span>managing risk.\u00a0<\/span>S<\/span>ustainability represents a massive\u00a0<\/span>one<\/span>\u00a0we still\u00a0<\/span>struggle<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0<\/span>fully grasp<\/span>, let alone\u00a0<\/span>accurately\u00a0<\/span>price into financial assets. Part of the struggle comes when trying to collect the necessary\u00a0<\/span>insight and apply the best technology\u00a0<\/span>to assess\u00a0<\/span>it<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s holding us up?<\/h2>\n

Without data, banks,\u00a0<\/span>insurers,\u00a0<\/span>and investors struggle to fully evaluate the risks of financing\u00a0<\/span>and underwriting\u00a0<\/span>ESG\u00a0<\/span>opportunities, limiting the funding they can provide. They<\/span>\u00a0are<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>rushing to\u00a0<\/span>re<\/span>imagine<\/span>\u00a0the way\u00a0<\/span>they\u00a0<\/span>think about risk\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>design<\/span>\u00a0a more holistic approach beyond just\u00a0<\/span>traditional\u00a0<\/span>financial data<\/span>\u00a0and anxieties<\/span>. Demonstrating ESG credentials<\/h2>\n

Sustainability\u00a0<\/span>is not just\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>badge of honor<\/span>\u00a0or a line item in the annual report<\/span>. It\u2019s the lens<\/span>\u00a0through which<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>enterprises aspire to be seen by their customers and stakeholders<\/span>\u00a0alike<\/span>. ESG maturity is the new table stakes in a market where the burden of progress is falling more and more on private sector shoulders.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Green is the new cool among a new generation clamoring for change. But it\u2019s good business too as ESG credentials often afford higher<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>multiples<\/span>, greater business performance<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and better market terms.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
