While the convention gave the city of brotherly love a short-term boost, Microsoft is making a long-term commitment in the form of a new Reactor. Located on the ground floor of the building that houses the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencecenter.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University City Science Center<\/a>, the nation\u2019s\u00a0first and largest urban research park, our new Microsoft Reactor is only a mile from City Hall and reflects a collaboration of the University City Science Center, <a href=\"http:\/\/wexfordscitech.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wexford Science + Technology<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seventysixcapital.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SeventySix Capital<\/a>, a local venture capital firm.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>As just the second of its kind in the nation (another <a href=\"http:\/\/microsoftreactor.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reactor is in San Francisco<\/a>), the Philadelphia location will strengthen Microsoft\u2019s presence in the region, where more than 350 employees work in our Malvern offices or adjacent <a href=\"https:\/\/cm-edgetun.pages.dev\/en-us\/mtc\/locations\/philadelphia.aspx?wa=wsignin1.0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Technology Center<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/cm-edgetun.pages.dev\/en-us\/store\/locations\/pa\/king-of-prussia\/king-of-prussia-mall\/store-1110\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft Store at King of Prussia Mall<\/a>. The new Reactor will provide an array of world-class resources and support for students, developers, entrepreneurs and startups, and enables us to bring together our partners, local government and civic leaders, and citizens to foster innovation, collaboration and economic development. Those of us in <a href=\"https:\/\/cm-edgetun.pages.dev\/en-us\/industry\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Philadelphia-Reactor2-003.2.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-310551\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-310551 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cm-edgetun.pages.dev\/en-us\/industry\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Philadelphia-Reactor2-003.2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"290\" height=\"125\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/enterprise.microsoft.com\/en-us\/industries\/citynext\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft CityNext<\/a> and our Citizenship and Developer Experience (DX) organizations will be the primary groups to leverage the Reactor but all employees will be able to use the community-friendly, University City location showcasing all the latest devices and hardware, including <a href=\"http:\/\/cm-edgetun.pages.dev\/microsoft-hololens\/en-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HoloLens<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/cm-edgetun.pages.dev\/microsoft-surface-hub\/en-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Surface Hub<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/msdn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/internetofthings.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Internet of Things technologies<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/cm-edgetun.pages.dev\/Microsoft-Band\/en-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft Band<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xbox.com\/en-US\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Xbox<\/a> and more.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Dave Voyles, a DX technical evangelist, will make the Reactor his new office so that he can reach even more developers and students in workshops, and \u201cserve as the eyes and ears of the Philadelphia (developer) community.\u201d Dave and his colleague Amanda Lange will be based at the Reactor to host groups of startups and provide the technical support they need or automatically sign them up for <a href=\"https:\/\/cm-edgetun.pages.dev\/bizspark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft BizSpark<\/a>, which provides free access to software, services and our <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/?c=16.17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft Azure<\/a> cloud platform. \u201cRather than one business at a time, I can reach 30-40 people at once,\u201d Dave explains, noting the Reactor will provide \u201cunfettered access\u201d to all of the vendor-neutral devices onsite and save developers from incurring costs running to hundreds of dollars or more.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>For Donna Woodall, Northeast Citizenship &amp; Public Affairs director, the new Reactor is \u201cin the right place, at the right time\u201d to focus on Philadelphia\u2019s downtown core. Her team currently partners with organizations such as Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of America\u00a0Inc., Big Brothers\/Big Sisters, Eagles Charitable Foundation, Girls Who Code, FirstHand, the YMCA, YearUp, TechImpact and others. With the Malvern location\u2014about 45 minutes from downtown\u2014\u201cthe challenge has always been traffic; getting people to our site,\u201d Donna said. With the new Reactor, \u201cwe\u2019ll be hosting educational events and bringing in students, small businesses and entrepreneurs; on the flip side, it\u2019s also about economic development.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>I\u2019ve always believed that Philadelphia is awesome and I\u2019m sure you\u2019ll agree. Now, with the recent Democratic Convention providing incredible national visibility and the new Reactor delivering a boost to downtown, I\u2019m even prouder to call Philadelphia
