Skype in the Classroom is kicking off our annual month-long celebration of reading, writing and storytelling today, aimed at inspiring a lifelong love of reading and writing for your students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In partnership with LitWorld and literacy partners like Penguin Random House, Scholastic, Little Brown Young Readers, Arbordale, Candlewick, Abrams Publishing, and more, we\u2019re bringing into your classroom hundreds of guest speakers, including authors, illustrators, storytellers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne of the best connections our scholars make when we Skype with authors is seeing a variety of personalities sharing their passion for writing. They\u2019re eager to learn more about the writing process, what a day in the life of an author looks like and finding out any secrets pertaining to their upcoming books,\u201d says Karey Killian, K-12 Teacher Librarian from PA, USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year will be extra special as we are partnering Little Brown Young Readers and will be wrapping up our celebrations with a <a href=\"https:\/\/education.microsoft.com\/dragon\"><strong>free broadcast event and live Q&amp;A<\/strong><\/a>. Classrooms and families are invited to join us on <strong>March 6<sup>th<\/sup> to meet Cressida Cowell, author and illustrator of the hugely popular \u201cHow to Train Your Dragon\u201d series.<\/strong> Cressida will inspire students to tap into their boundless imagination and will show how using character development and details in stories make them more believable and fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cm-edgetun.pages.dev\/en-us\/education\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/httyd-meeting-skype.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The broadcast will air twice on Wednesday, March 6th at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeanddate.com\/worldclock\/fixedtime.html?iso=20190306T0900&amp;p1=179&amp;msg=How%20to%20train%20your%20dragon-%20broadcast&amp;fromtheme=generic\">9:00 Eastern Time\/ 14:00 GMT<\/a><\/strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeanddate.com\/worldclock\/fixedtime.html?msg=How+to+train+your+dragon-+broadcast+2&amp;iso=20190306T13&amp;p1=179&amp;ah=1\"><strong>13:00 Eastern Time\/18:00 GMT<\/strong><\/a> followed by live Q&amp;A chat with Cressida each time.
